Forefather Shields

Postby french ninja » Wed May 18, 2011 4:02 am

This was an idea that I came up with recently while the forums were down:

You know how some shields or armor have personalized markings (iron shield has tally marks, netch leather has religious stencils etc)

Well, perhaps nords go into battle with the names of their fathers and their father's fathers etched in nordic runes upon the inside of their shields. Being runes, it wouldn't be as jarring as it would picking up several different shields and seeing "Jorvyrd son of Hakkvard son of....". Maybe have 3-4 different textures with different runes, but they would be labeled as the same shield type (similar to "common shirt").

Sounds like a good idea. There are a few nords in some vanilla misc quests that tell the player to retrieve a weapon they got from their father and his forefathers, but those weapons always look like all the other weapons in the vanilla game. That's pretty annoying because it kills the uniqueness of such old weapon.

return 0;

sounds great. while we are at it. it wouldn't hurt to come up with some heraldic devices and colors to give more flavor. so like by the colors on a shield you can make a reasonable guess what area they are from. and if they are wearing someones heraldic device on a tunic or tabard. you know where their loyalty lies. without having to ask them.
