The mesa is limiting the possibilities to have a great difference in height on the platform, many mesas in RL life are more or less flat:

http://cpluhna.nau.edu/Places/black_mesa.htm

A possible option would be to make one side of the mesa higher than the other, but I'm not sure if it would be worth the effort since it could look weird from a distance in some cases.

Maybe we should keep up town/ downtown in account for our next city since we don't have any cities on mesas anymore, so there will be much more freedom to shape the ground than on this claim
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

int main () {
cout << "This is C++, you won't even think of Java again once you discovered what this language is able to do" << endl;
return 0;
}

Ok, that makes sense I guess. I was only talking about very slight height differences, but if it stays flat it's not like I could change anything :mrgreen:

I agree on this, just what I had in mind while thinking of raising the mesa;

2x2 cells is too small, I have no platforms, stairs or foundations, and it will look awkward to have it raised having cliffs all around.
Also the northwest side is already quite a bit lower than the east and south parts. I just made higher buildings to make the difference.

I just realized that because our landmass doesn't show up on the world map, it doesn't really matter if we have a lot of named cells. I was mainly concerned about having the map cluttered with the yellow boxes that show up when a cell is named, but like I just explained, we don't really have to worry about that. :lol:

So you can pretty much disregard my previous post, except for my compliment on the manors of course 8-)

Here an overview I made with my opinion on designations for it.

Not that we need to follow it by the letter :P Just to give a view on what I made and where.

96 interiors? Is Karthwasten really supposed to be that big a deal? I mean, big is great, but there's a point where big is too big.

I think about 40-50, a tad bigger then Balmora, a view I share with Muspila/Worsas.

What happend to this plan?

I'm just concerned about how we can realistically handle this many interiors and NPCs for all our cities. :ugeek:

At some point the plan had been to make Karthwasten the biggest city of The Reach, though I believe Lestat wants to make Markarth bigger now(though hopefully not in terms of interiors). Yes 96 interiors are muuuch.
The fact that this city contains a tileset that is only otherwise used in Dragonstar and a few places in the wilderness, will maybe justify the amount...

I have build the city on 2/3rd of the given area, rest is farmland. I utilized the whole mesa sensibly in terms of city defences, and filled the area with city. The high amount of interiors is also due many small houses and farms.

It used to be capital, so ought to be big, having only rich, and merchant wouldn't fit todays utilization, so I added a decent amount of poor.

I just got big to keep balance, and make it a nice city. A city that is under attack, that has the feel of an old capital, a city that is on the mainroad between cities, being an important strategic location, self sufficient, and occupied.

I have tried to let the city have variety as well as multicultural. Also waystation for the army on the way to Dragonstar and Hammerfell.

I ended up with 96 interiors to achieve it.

I didn't know Karthwasten was the former capital, so I can understand the size now, especielly if Markarth Side will have similar number of interiors.

Regardless, you're work is great Praedator. Having large cities is great, though I also love having smaller places, and I think smaller cities are just as good at achieving a good atmosphere.

It looks like an excellent job so far, especially the poor area. How come there are no planters in front of the windows, though?
